Abstract

Researchers from Wuhan University in China have published a new report on the mechanisms of Triton X-100 reducing the Ag+-resistance of Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis), a type of Gram-Positive Bacteria. The study aimed to investigate the antibacterial effect of Triton X-100 + Ag+ against induced Ag+-resistant E. faecalis (AREf). The researchers found that Triton X-100 could facilitate Ag+ to enter E. faecalis by changing the membrane structure and integrity, reducing the Ag+-resistance of the bacteria and enhancing the antibacterial effect. The study was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. [Extracted from the article]
