Abstract

A recent report from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens discusses the relationship between symptomatic carotid artery disease (CAD) and corticobasal syndrome. The report presents the case of a 77-year-old patient who experienced cognitive dysfunction, alien limb syndrome, limb kinetic apraxia, and cortical sensory deficit, all of which were diagnosed as probable corticobasal syndrome. Imaging tests revealed infarcts in the right hemisphere due to CAD, and the patient underwent a carotid endarterectomy, resulting in significant improvement in mobility and neuropsychological evaluation. The report emphasizes the importance of promptly diagnosing symptomatic CAD in patients with corticobasal syndrome and highlights the effectiveness of carotid endarterectomy in improving symptoms.
