Abstract
- A recent study conducted at the University of Manchester explored the effects of menopause and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on the skin barrier and immune system in post-menopausal women. The study found that individuals receiving HRT displayed a stronger skin barrier response to irritant challenge, with thicker filaggrin and increased keratin-10-positive cell layers. Additionally, HRT users exhibited elevated counts of certain immune cells in the dermis, which may make the skin more prone to inflammation but also more capable of resolving it and promoting skin repair. These findings contribute to our understanding of the impact of menopause and HRT on skin health. [Extracted from the article]
