Abstract
- A recent study conducted in Thailand by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has identified shared risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA), two types of liver cancer. The study found that viral hepatitis infection, liver fluke infection, and diabetes were common risk factors for both types of cancer. Additionally, the study revealed novel associations between agricultural pesticide exposure and vulnerable drinking water sources with liver cancer. Patients with multiple risk factors had worse survival outcomes. These findings highlight the need for prevention and control measures, particularly in Thailand's large agricultural sector.
