Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Bukovinian State Medical University in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, examined the renal excretory function in patients with chronic liver diseases. The study found that hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver can lead to the development of hepatorenal syndrome, characterized by a reduction in glomerular filtration rate (GFR). The severity of liver damage correlated with the extent of reduction in GFR. The study concluded that liver diseases, particularly cirrhosis, can cause kidney problems by reducing the kidney's ability to filter blood, as evidenced by higher creatinine levels in the blood.
