Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Heidelberg University Hospital in Germany has found that helium ion therapy (HRT) shows promise as a treatment for advanced juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA). The study compared HRT to proton therapy (PRT) and found that HRT led to enhanced target coverage and reduced radiation-induced complications. Specifically, HRT resulted in a reduction in ocular toxicity, cataract development, xerostomia, tinnitus, alopecia, and delayed recall. Additionally, HRT showed a mean excess absolute risk reduction of approximately 30% for secondary central nervous system malignancies. This research suggests that HRT may be a beneficial treatment option for advanced JNA, with the potential for reduced complications. [Extracted from the article]
