Abstract
- A recent report from Gachon University Gil Medical Center discusses the role of natural killer (NK) cells in chronic liver disease (CLD) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The research highlights the importance of NK cells in the liver's immune response against viral infections and tumors. Changes in the numbers and function of NK cells have been associated with the development and progression of CLDs, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, and chronic viral hepatitis. The impaired functions of NK cells observed in CLDs contribute to the occurrence and progression of HCC. The study suggests that reversing the downregulation of NKG2D, a receptor involved in NK cell function, could enhance immune responses against HCC. The review aims to summarize recent studies on NK cell immune signatures and therapeutic approaches for HCC. [Extracted from the article]
