Abstract

Researchers from Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University have published a case report on peribiliary gland hyperplasia, a condition that can be difficult to differentiate from bile duct cancer. The patient in the case had an adenomatous lesion in the ascending colon and a mass lesion around the confluence of the cystic duct. Various imaging techniques were used to assess the condition, and surgery was ultimately performed to remove the extrahepatic bile duct and the ascending colon tumor. The histopathological examination revealed no malignant findings, confirming a diagnosis of peribiliary gland hyperplasia. This research highlights the challenges in distinguishing between peribiliary gland hyperplasia and bile duct cancer. [Extracted from the article]
