Abstract
- A recent report from the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing, China, discusses the case of a patient with chronic hepatitis B who developed interstitial lung disease (ILD) after receiving pegylated-interferon alpha (PEG-IFN alpha) treatment. The report highlights the need for further studies to understand the characteristics and outcomes of ILD induced by interferon therapy. The analysis of 45 cases revealed that ILD induced by interferon treatment can lead to decreased lung function and, in some cases, be fatal despite intensive treatment. The researchers recommend monitoring for ILD during interferon therapy and considering appropriate steroid treatment for patients with progressive manifestations. [Extracted from the article]
