Abstract
- Researchers from the University of Coimbra in Portugal have conducted a study on beam angle optimization (BAO) in radiation therapy treatment planning. BAO is a complex optimization problem that is computationally time-consuming. The researchers tested several randomized direct-search strategies using different sets of polling directions and found that while deterministic direct-search methods produced high-quality results, randomized strategies had difficulties in higher dimensional search spaces. The researchers emphasize the importance of considering worst-case scenarios and the possibility of poor results in real-world healthcare applications. This research has been peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Global Optimization. [Extracted from the article]
