Abstract
- This article presents information on various girl groups the music industry. Many pop aficionados view the history of the classic American girl group as a Cinderella dory of youngsters swept up from the ghetto into a magical world of bouffant hairdos and designer gowns. The pop marketplace of the 1990s, redefined by a crop of female artists as diverse as Madonna, Sinead O'Connor and Rosanne Cash, offers the girl groups a new chance to break out of 30-year-old stereotypes and assume a greater role in selecting their own sound and image. Just a few moments with Ann Curless, the "most outspoken" member of Exposé, quickly dispels a handful of girl-group prejudices.
