Abstract

A study conducted by the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio examined the utilization trends and outcomes of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) compared to other surgical procedures for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The study found that despite being endorsed by the American Urological Association (AUA) and having evidence supporting its safety and efficacy, the utilization of HoLEP remains limited in the United States. However, the adoption of HoLEP has slightly increased since 2015. The underutilization of HoLEP may be due to a lack of availability and the steep learning curve associated with the procedure.
