Abstract
- Researchers from Nanjing University in China have conducted a study on Porphyromonas gingivalis, a bacterium associated with periodontal disease. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) and Porphyromonas gingivalis in the process of pyroptosis in cementoblasts. The researchers found that Porphyromonas gingivalis triggered pyroptosis in cementoblasts and increased the generation of ROS in the mitochondria. Inhibition of mitochondrial ROS reduced pyroptosis, suggesting that targeting mitochondrial ROS could be a potential therapeutic strategy for periodontal regeneration. The study provides valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying periodontal disease. [Extracted from the article]
