Abstract
- This article is the final part of Alice Pak's novella, "War and Pieces (Part III)," which tells the story of Misha and his mother fleeing their war-torn home in Ukraine. Misha's mother surprises him and his friend Varya with the news that they have to temporarily return to Russia. They embark on a dangerous journey, including being smuggled across the border in a cargo truck. After the truck breaks down, they continue on foot and eventually reach a small cabin where they encounter a soldier. The text also describes a group of people seeking refuge in a small station, being questioned by a soldier, and eventually being allowed to go to St. Petersburg. In the city, the protagonist reflects on their friend in Poland and writes a letter expressing their experiences and hope for the future. They then encounter a young boy playing soccer and find hope in the interaction. The text emphasizes the importance of peace and rebuilding. [Extracted from the article]
