Abstract

A study conducted at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin, examined the impact of oral step-down therapy on the treatment of ganciclovir-resistant cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in solid organ transplant recipients. The study found that patients who received oral step-down conversion had a shorter duration of foscarnet therapy and a shorter hospital length of stay compared to those who received standard of care treatment. The researchers concluded that further studies are needed to evaluate the cost-saving benefits of oral step-down therapy for CMV infections. This research was published in Transplantation Proceedings. [Extracted from the article]
