Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University in China investigated the association between Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The study aimed to determine the relevance between different immunohistochemical intensities of P. gingivalis and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in OSCC tissue and their clinicopathologic characteristics. The results showed that elevated expression of P. gingivalis and DOK3 (a key molecule) indicated M2-TAM infiltration and an unfavorable prognosis for OSCC. These findings suggest that P. gingivalis and DOK3 could be considered as independent risk factors for predicting the prognosis of OSCC. [Extracted from the article]
