Abstract

A recent study conducted by Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Hubei, China, explored the effectiveness of Bakri intrauterine balloon tamponade (IUBT) in treating severe postpartum hemorrhage (SPPH). The study found that women with SPPH had a high proportion of placenta accrete, and Bakri IUBT demonstrated a global effectiveness of 84.5% in SPPH treatment. Pre-IUBT intervention was found to be predictive of Bakri's success, and the timely use of IUBT during labor may mitigate the impact of risk factors on postpartum hemorrhage. The study concluded that placenta accrete may be the leading cause of SPPH and that Bakri IUBT is an effective and safe measure for its treatment. [Extracted from the article]
