Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Mahanakorn University of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand, has found that the Flinders Technology Associates (FTA) card, a cotton-based cellulose membrane, effectively inactivates infectious microorganisms and fixes nucleic acid. The study aimed to assess the stability and detection limit of various RNA viruses, including avian influenza virus (AIV), Newcastle disease virus (NDV), and African horse sickness virus (AHSV), on the FTA card. The researchers found that the FTA card is recommended for virus storage and transport, as it demonstrated effectiveness, stability, and safety implications for the molecular detection and identification of RNA viral pathogens.
