Abstract
- A study conducted at the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research in Pondicherry, India, aimed to develop a prognostic-scoring model for predicting mortality among newly diagnosed drug-sensitive pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) patients in South India. The researchers analyzed cohort data and identified eight variables (age, gender, functional limitation, anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, diabetes, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio) that were used to build a nomogram-scoring system. The model showed a discriminatory power of 0.81 and was well-calibrated. The researchers concluded that this scoring system could help clinicians and policymakers devise targeted interventions to reduce TB mortality in India. [Extracted from the article]
