Abstract

A recent study conducted at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts explored the relationship between phantom limb pain and traumatic neuromas. The researchers found that traumatic neuromas, which are often treated surgically, should be considered as a potential cause of phantom limb pain. The study focused on a 77-year-old female patient who experienced severe pain in her amputated leg, which was initially attributed to phantom limb pain but was later diagnosed as a neuroma. This research highlights the importance of considering traumatic neuromas in the differential diagnosis of phantom limb pain. [Extracted from the article]
