Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil has found that the protein disulfide isomerase A1 (PDIA1) is overexpressed during vascular proliferative diseases, which can regulate thrombus formation, endoplasmic reticulum stress adaptation, and structural remodeling. The study also identified two microRNAs, miR-204-5p and miR-211-5p, that may target PDIA1. These microRNAs were downregulated in vascular layers following partial carotid ligation, and experiments showed that increasing miR-204 levels decreased PDIA1 expression and affected markers of endothelial activation and vascular smooth muscle cell differentiation. The researchers suggest that this mechanism could be a potential therapeutic target for vascular diseases. [Extracted from the article]
