Abstract
- This article presents information related to the "Share the Wealth," physical education conference. The Share the Wealth Conference completed its eighteenth consecutive year of success this past January. Back in 1987, John Merriman, then the Department Head at Valdosta State College, saw an opportunity to continue a Share the Wealth concept originated by Peg Jones at Georgia State University. The conference atmosphere at Share the Wealth is like no other. People attending the conference have a blast. Most sessions are active, people dress for participation, and laughter infiltrates the Jekyll Island Convention Center for those two and one half days late in January each year. Presenters for the Share the Wealth Conference over the years have come from approximately thirty-five of the fifty states across the country. The conference has also attracted presenters from six different countries. The cross-section of presenters is an impressive characteristic associated with Share the Wealth. Presenters are more than higher education faculty members. A strong contingent of presenters are from elementary, middle school or secondary level physical education programs in public and private schools.
