Abstract

The article presents information on the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE), an independent, nonprofit professional association whose mission is to promote excellence in research, teaching, and service for library and information science education through leadership, collaboration, advocacy, and dissemination of research. ALISE is now both an institutional and individual membership association. Its institutional members are units within universities--whether departments, programs, or schools--that provide courses and programs designed to educate professionals for libraries and other information agencies. Its personal members are both instructors in the member programs and those who have an interest in education for the library and information professions. ALISE's special interest groups also meet at the conference, sometimes in informal discussion groups, but more often in order to present panels or papers on topics of interest. Each year the ALISE Awards Committee presents awards at the annual conference to members nominated in various categories representing various kinds of sustained contributions to the field or the association.
