Abstract

A recent report from Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, Poland, explores the connection between Porphyromonas gingivalis, a bacterium associated with periodontitis, and the progression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The study suggests that the dysbiosis of the oral microbiota, specifically an increased abundance of P. gingivalis, can disrupt the homeostasis of the oral microbial community and contribute to the development and progression of RA. The research highlights the role of the immune system and the damage caused by the immune response in both chronic periodontitis and RA. Further investigation is needed to understand the specific mechanisms involved. [Extracted from the article]
