Abstract

A recent study conducted in Uttar Pradesh, India, examined the anatomical variations of the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) and left colic artery (LCA) using three-dimensional-computed tomography angiography (3D-CTA). The researchers collected and analyzed abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan data from 180 patients. They found variations in the level of origin and branching patterns of the IMA, as well as different tracking patterns of the ascending branch of the LCA. The study concluded that preoperative understanding of these vascular variations can assist surgeons in planning strategies to prevent iatrogenic injuries. [Extracted from the article]
