Abstract

A recent report from Peking University Third Hospital in Beijing, China, discusses the use of serum proteomic profiling to detect gastric cancer (GC) and precancerous gastric lesions. The study found that certain proteins, such as APOA4 and COMP, were increased in the serum of patients with pre-GC lesions and GC. Additionally, inflammation-associated proteins were decreased in the GC and pre-GC groups, indicating a convergence of the inflammatory response at the gastric lesion site during GC progression. The study also highlighted the importance of oxidative stress pathways in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, a known risk factor for GC. These findings may contribute to the development of potential diagnostic biomarkers for pre-GC lesions. [Extracted from the article]
