Abstract

A recent study conducted at Texas State University has provided new information about mental health diseases and conditions, particularly among youth of color and girls. The study focused on the use of a Hip Hop integrated intervention to promote positive social and emotional development in high school students. The results showed that all three groups, regardless of facilitation style, experienced benefits such as increased confidence, a strong sense of community, and a willingness to collaborate and create something meaningful. The researchers suggest that these findings have implications for programming and policies to address the mental health needs of youth year-round and during times of instability.
