Abstract

A study conducted by the University of Augsburg in Germany aimed to assess the prevalence of systemic autoantibodies in the general Bavarian adult population. The researchers analyzed blood samples from 331 participants and found that 29.9% of them tested positive for at least one screening test, while 42.3% were seropositive for at least one specific autoantibody. The most commonly found autoantibodies were rheumatoid factor, ss2-glycoprotein 1 IgM, and cardiolipin IgG. The study concluded that systemic autoantibodies are common in the Bavarian population and are largely independent of factors such as sex, age, BMI, education, and smoking status. The findings may provide guidance to clinicians regarding the occurrence of autoantibodies in the population, even in the absence of clinical symptoms. [Extracted from the article]
