Abstract

This article discusses a study that investigates the conditions necessary to make progress in combating a disease. The study compares diseases with successful therapies to those without, and identifies five conditions that must typically be met for success. These conditions include understanding the biological drivers of the disease, the ability to modulate biology, the availability of translational models, the ability to identify patients, and the ability to measure clinical response. The study suggests that this framework can be used to identify diseases most ready for progress and to focus efforts on diseases that are currently difficult to treat. However, it should be noted that this research has not yet undergone peer review. [Extracted from the article]
