Abstract
- A study conducted by the Butantan Institute in Sao Paulo, Brazil, explores the role of snake venom disintegrins (SVDs) in angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels. The research highlights the dual roles of SVDs in angiogenesis, acting as both antiangiogenic agents by inhibiting integrin binding and proangiogenic agents by enhancing integrin binding. The study suggests that SVDs have potential therapeutic applications in diseases related to angiogenesis, such as cancer, ocular diseases, tissue regeneration, wound healing, and cardiovascular diseases. Further advancements in this field could lead to innovative treatments for these conditions. [Extracted from the article]
