Abstract

A study conducted by Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine has found a link between prurigo nodularis (PN), a chronic inflammatory skin disease, and liver disease. The study revealed that PN patients had a higher risk of developing various liver conditions compared to healthy controls. Further analysis showed dysregulation of genes related to hepatic failure in PN patients. A subsequent genome-wide association study identified shared genetic variations between PN and liver disease. These findings suggest a dysregulation of the skin-liver axis in PN patients and may help identify future therapeutic targets. [Extracted from the article]
