Abstract

A recent report from the University of Michigan Medical School provides new insights into the complications of bariatric surgery. The study found that over 250,000 patients undergo bariatric surgery each year in the United States, with approximately 21% undergoing subsequent body contouring after massive weight loss. The research focused on post-bariatric panniculectomy, a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat. The study found that complications following panniculectomy in bariatric surgery patients are high and predominantly related to wound healing. However, there was no significant difference in complication risk based on the type of bariatric surgery performed. [Extracted from the article]
