Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Pretoria in South Africa examined the treatment outcomes of vaginal discharge syndrome (VDS) in women in Windhoek, Namibia. The study found that treatment failure after syndromic management of VDS is common in resource-constrained settings. The main pathogen in VDS was Candida albicans, with fluconazole resistance detected in some isolates. The study recommends access to diagnostic testing, including fungal culture and susceptibility testing, to improve treatment outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
