Abstract
- A recent study conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina examined the timing of surgical repair for complete atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD) in infants and its impact on resource utilization and clinical outcomes in the first year of life. The study included 79 infants who underwent AVSD repair between 2005 and 2019. The researchers found that the age at which the surgery was performed did not significantly affect the number of days alive and out of the hospital in the first year of life. Additionally, there were no significant differences in clinical outcomes or resource utilization among the different age groups. This research suggests that the timing of AVSD repair does not have a significant impact on outcomes in the first year of life. [Extracted from the article]
