Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Tokyo Medical University focused on the treatment of cleft lip and palate. The study found that the width of the cleft and the distance between the premaxilla and alveolar bone are important factors in the initial repair of complete bilateral cleft lip. The researchers reported a case of a 5-month-old boy with a severely protruding premaxilla who underwent surgical premaxillary setback with vomerine ostectomy. The procedure was successful in achieving favorable morphological and aesthetical results. The researchers concluded that long-term follow-up is necessary to assess the midfacial development of patients undergoing this treatment. [Extracted from the article]
