Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers from the Institut de Recherche Biomedicale des Armees in France has shed new light on the early stages of inhalational anthrax infection. The study focused on the role of edema factor (EF), one of the enzymatic proteins involved in anthrax toxins. The researchers found that EF can enter cells independently of the protective antigen (PA), but PA is still required for EF to induce an increase in intracellular cAMP levels. The study suggests that PA and EF may functionally associate during intracellular trafficking. This research provides valuable insights into the mechanisms of anthrax infection.
