Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Leuven in Belgium examined the long-term outcomes of patients with Crohn's disease who underwent modified side-to-side isoperistaltic strictureplasty (SSIS) to treat long strictures in the small intestine. The study aimed to determine if radiological features on MR enterography (MRE) could predict these outcomes. The researchers found that the Simplified MARIA (MARIAs) score, which assesses wall thickness, edema, fat stranding, and ulcers, was not predictive of long-term clinical or surgical recurrence. The study suggests that improvements are needed in scoring tools for predicting outcomes in these patients. [Extracted from the article]
