Abstract

The article focuses on a study that was designed to examine the effectiveness of several alternative treatment procedures, including differential reinforcement of other behavior, over-correction, lemon juice, and aromatic ammonia on self-injurious behavior (SIB) in a profoundly retarded child. The subject of the study was a five-year-old deaf-blind non-ambulatory retarded child who was referred to the Children's Rehabilitation Unit of the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. Medical records indicated that the child has multiple congenital anomalies including megalocornea, congenital glaucoma, and retarded mental and motor development.
