Abstract

A study conducted at the Shanghai Skin Disease Hospital in China investigated the therapeutic effects of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) on hypertrophic scar (HS) tissue in mice. HS is a disorder characterized by the excessive proliferation of fibrous tissue during wound healing, causing pain, itching, and ulceration. The study found that BTX-A inhibited the formation of HS by regulating apoptosis, reducing the formation of myofibroblasts and collagen deposition, and improving the arrangement of collagen fibers. The researchers concluded that BTX-A could be an effective treatment for HS. [Extracted from the article]
