Abstract

The article examines the occurrence of moyamoya disease in a child with Down's syndrome. The subject is the second child of healthy, non-consanguineous parents. Apart from her, there is no family history of Down's syndrome or related disabilities. Following a full-term normal pregnancy and birth, the subject was suspected neonatally to have Down's syndrome. This diagnosis was confirmed on blood leucocyte culture that revealed standard trisomy 21 without evidence of mosaicism. However, her overall progress is consistent with that of children with Down's syndrome in general, seizures have not occurred, and she is a contented, friendly child with an estimated mental age of 3 years.
