Abstract

A recent study conducted by the Westmead Institute for Medical Research in Sydney, Australia, has provided new insights into the mechanism of action of adult vaccines for the Herpes Zoster Virus (HZV). The study found that T cell responses to the virus decline with age, particularly in individuals over 50 years old. Two vaccines, a live attenuated zoster vaccine (ZVL) and a recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV), were developed to restore T cell responses. The RZV, which combines the gE protein with the AS01B adjuvant system, was found to be more effective and durable in stimulating T cell responses compared to the ZVL. These findings will contribute to the development of more effective vaccines for older individuals. [Extracted from the article]
