Abstract
- A recent study conducted by the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center College of Pharmacy has found that multidose inhalers of tiotropium, an anticholinergic bronchodilator, often result in wasted doses when dispensed to hospitalized patients. The study compared the wastage of multidose tiotropium packages to single-use revefenacin vials, a nebulized alternative. The researchers discovered that approximately $24,000 worth of tiotropium doses were wasted, highlighting the potential for minimizing wastage and cost savings by using nebulized vials instead. This study provides valuable insights for hospital and health-system pharmacies in their decision-making processes. [Extracted from the article]
