Abstract

The article discusses the importance of cultural humility and cultural safety in healthcare. While cultural competency is a well-established concept, the authors argue that there is a need to focus on more advanced frameworks of cultural humility and cultural safety. Cultural humility involves recognizing one's own biases and adopting a mindset of lifelong learning when working with diverse communities. Cultural safety involves addressing power imbalances, minimizing racism and discrimination, and prioritizing safety and inclusivity in healthcare. The article emphasizes the need for cultural humility and cultural safety in addressing health disparities and improving health outcomes for minority groups, including immigrants, refugees, racial and ethnic minorities, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
