Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center has explored the use of a surgical spoon in the removal of substernal goiter. Substernal goiter is a condition where the thyroid gland extends into the chest cavity. The researchers found that in cases where digital mobilization is inadequate, a surgical spoon can be used to safely and successfully remove the goiter. This alternative strategy can help avoid the need for a sternotomy, which can add significant morbidity to the operation. The study provides valuable insights into improving surgical techniques for substernal goiter removal. [Extracted from the article]
