Abstract

A recent study conducted at the National Cancer Institute in Libya examined the efficacy and safety of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) using holmium laser lithotripsy for the treatment of kidney stones. The study included 54 patients with renal calculi and found that RIRS combined with holmium laser lithotripsy was a valuable treatment option, particularly for patients with kidney stones less than or equal to 20 mm in size. The study reported a stone-free rate of 64.4% immediately after the procedure, which increased to 91.1% after one month. The overall complication rate was 9.2%, with most complications being urinary tract infections. The researchers concluded that RIRS with holmium laser lithotripsy is a safe and effective treatment for renal calculi. [Extracted from the article]
