Abstract

A recent study from Maharashtra, India, explores the case of a 33-year-old male who experienced acute fulminant hepatic failure after ingesting 30 grams of rat poison containing yellow phosphorus while under the influence of alcohol. The patient presented with symptoms such as icterus and subconjunctival hemorrhage, and laboratory tests revealed severely deranged liver function. Despite treatment with N-acetyl cysteine, vitamin K, and fresh frozen plasma transfusion, the patient's condition worsened, leading to emergency orthotopic liver transplantation. The case report emphasizes the importance of early recognition, appropriate treatment, and timely transplantation in improving patient outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
