Abstract

A recent study conducted at Donghua University in Shanghai, China, has developed a novel method for creating antibiofouling membranes for water and wastewater treatment. The researchers used a grafting technique to attach non-drug-resistant antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) onto polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes. The modified membranes showed enhanced hydrophilicity, consistent permeability, and strong antimicrobial properties. The study concluded that this grafting protocol for AMPs provides a robust approach to mitigate biofouling in water and wastewater treatment. The research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Science & Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality. [Extracted from the article]
