Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Rush University in Chicago, Illinois, has found that post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy) may be associated with an increased risk of bacterial infections in patients undergoing hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). The study included patients receiving haploidentical or matched sibling donor HCT for acute leukemias or myelodysplastic syndrome. The findings showed that patients receiving PTCy had a higher incidence of bacterial infections compared to those receiving other forms of graft-versus-host disease prophylaxis. The researchers recommend careful monitoring for bacterial infections in patients receiving PTCy. [Extracted from the article]
