Abstract
- Boehringer-Ingelheim Animal Health responds to a recently published paper by Kongara et al. on the pharmacokinetics and effects of firocoxib and meloxicam on lambs after castration and tail docking. They state that their product, Metacam 20, has been registered for use in sheep in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada since 2016 and has demonstrated an excellent safety profile. They argue that the paper's suggestion of "mild renal toxicity" caused by meloxicam is not supported by the data presented. Boehringer-Ingelheim Animal Health assures veterinarians and farmers that Metacam 20 is a safe and effective product for mitigating inflammation and pain in sheep and lambs.
