Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Lund University in Sweden examined the development of complement-fixing antibodies against Plasmodium falciparum merozoites in infants and their mothers in Uganda. The study found that infants' complement-fixing antibody levels were highest at birth, decreased until six months, and then increased progressively until they were similar to birth levels at five years. The study also indicated that these antibodies are produced in mothers and transferred to infants through the placenta. The findings contribute to our understanding of early-life immune responses and could inform the development of a long-lasting malaria vaccine. [Extracted from the article]
